Someone in the crowd said to Jesus, “Teacher, tell my brother to share the inheritance with me.”

He replied to him, “Friend, who appointed me as your judge and arbitrator?”

Then he said to the crowd, “Take care to guard against all greed, for though one may be rich, one’s life does not consist of possessions.”

Then he told them a parable. “There was a rich man whose land produced a bountiful harvest.

He asked himself, ‘What shall I do, for I do not have space to store my harvest?’

And he said, ‘This is what I shall do: I shall tear down my barns and build larger ones.

There I shall store all my grain and other goods and I shall say to myself, “Now as for you, you have so many good things stored up for many years, rest, eat, drink, be merry!”

But God said to him, ‘You fool, this night your life will be demanded of you; and the things you have prepared, to whom will they belong?’

Thus will it be for the one who stores up treasure for himself but is not rich in what matters to God.” – Luke 12:13-21.

“Beloved, let us love one another, because love is of God; everyone who loves is begotten by God and knows God.

Whoever is without love does not know God, for God is love.

In this way the love of God was revealed to us: God sent his only Son into the world so that we might have life through him.

In this is love: not that we have loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as expiation for our sins.

Beloved, if God so loved us, we also must love one another.

No one has ever seen God.

Yet, if we love one another, God remains in us, and his love is brought to perfection in us.

This is how we know that we remain in him and he in us, that he has given us of his Spirit.

Moreover, we have seen and testify that the Father sent his Son as savior of the world.

Whoever acknowledges that Jesus is the Son of God, God remains in him and he in God.

We have come to know and to believe in the love God has for us.

God is love, and whoever remains in love remains in God and God in him.” –  1 John 4:7-16.

You want to know the truth…?

Okay, here it is…pain never goes away.

Yep, it’s true…it fades a bit, but never leaves.

This is why I share all of these posts with you all…to remind you that even though there is pain, we can dull it down and keep plodding along and have minimal impact from the pain.

When we are safe, comfortable, and secure, the pain seems a distant memory. This is why we have to remember: We are all in this together.

We lean on each other for strength.

Just because you are having a bad day, or week, or see too much anger, hatred, sorrow, or STUPIDITY out there does not mean that the ENTIRE world is a bad place…or that everyone is a bad person.

Where am I going with this, you ask?

I never understood racism, or hatred of another because of their skin colour…I never hated a race because of their faith, or politics…I never saw a bad person who was not at some point a good one…heck, everyone was once a baby on someone’s knee.

It is because of circumstances, or their community, or those they looked up to that failed them…not people in general.

Look…it is really simple: If some person does not agree with you…SO WHAT!?!?

If their politics or social ideology is not yours, WHO CARES!?!?

Does this stop them from being a good person? Does the fact that they support one cause or another REALLY make a change to YOUR life?

Do you have to berate them, accuse them, hate them because they seem “foreign” or “Un-this or the other”?

Don’t you get it??? WE ARE ALL HUMANS…REGARDLESS of skin, politics, race, sexual alignment, belief system, location, or creed!

Don’t you think THEY want the same respect, love, grace, and forgiveness for THEIR pasts that YOU also want?

Do you think that hating them will make them just suddenly wake them up and say “Oh, yeah, I’ve been doing it all wrong from the git-go”!?!?!?

I see the world descending into madness…wrongs being committed on EVERY level…people overly sensitive about EVERY SINGLE THING. Be it a simple picture, or a political candidate, or some silly game being played.

The world is being pounded into oblivion, and you think “un-friending” someone, or “caps-lock” yelling at someone is going to change this?

I am tired….oh yes, don’t look so shocked…I am tired from screaming “PEACE!!!” at the top of my lungs, and having people say “Amen” or “HALLELUJAH” with their mouths, then going right back out and starting their hating, or tormenting of others, or mouthing off about what THEY do not like about EVERYONE ELSE.

It’s enough to drive you into a hermitage, I tell ya.!

There are A LOT of good people out there…they simple get lost in the shuffle of this world because, and let’s face it, bad news sells more than good news.

The world wants you to focus on everything bad, yet shows you nothing good…the media…the politicians…the television…

When was the last time you saw a front page story about a hero rescuing some stranded puppy? Or when some politician said “I don’t want my paycheck, here…give it to charity”?

Nope…they would rather keep you emotionally unstable so they can do whatever they want and get away with it…power and money, ladies and gents, that is what this world seems to be all about.

What ever happened to celebrating those who did GOOD…? What ever happened to HEROES..?

They were sacrificed on the altar of “Selling press”.

The more you focus on the BAD, the more bad you will see….so..focus on the GOOD.

Like that guy who tossed in that dime into the charity cup…or that woman who saved all of those rabbits…or that kid who called emergency services to save some pensioner who had fallen….or the people who rescued an animal or child from a hot car.

We are so caught up in a flow of CRAP that we forget to see the grass on the embankment.

We are so busy looking at the pothole that we miss seeing the flowers around it..

Now, I know SOME preachers would say “Focus on God”…and that IS important…but what is MORE important is if we focus on HELPING one another…LIFTING one another up…

You think God sits up there watching us saying “Yep, they told THAT person off good”…?

I will lay you a penny to a pound He is up there saying “I gave them an opportunity to help right there…why didn’t they take it?”

(Gonna hit the ‘preacher’ button here, so bear with me..)

There are THREE scriptures my Master gave us….THREE…so simple…so easy to follow, and yet in this day and age, so FEW pay attention to.

“One of the teachers of the law came and heard them debating. Noticing that Jesus had given them a good answer, he asked him, “Of all the commandments, which is the most important?”

“The most important one,” answered Jesus, “is this: ‘Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one.

Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’

The second is this: ‘Love your neighbour as yourself.’

There is no commandment greater than these.” – Mark 12:28-30

“Do not judge, or you too will be judged.

For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.” – Matthew 7:1-2

“My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you.” – John 15:12

These three are SO EASY to follow, yet some find it SO HARD….WHY!?!?!

If you love each other, you have NO TIME to hate each other…if you LOVE GOD, then OBEY HIS COMMANDS…if you are judging another, YOU CAN BE JUDGED AS WELL.

Take a moment to process that..sounds easy, right? Yet some find it so HARD.

They cannot let go of their pasts, because without that how will they BE who their are, right?

Letting go of the past does not change what happened, it simply makes it easier to be who you REALLY are.

People cannot let go of their anger, because anger is the SECOND strongest emotion of the human experience..yet…if they let go of the anger, they will see things they overlooked while they were raging…and then they will feel, what, embarrassed..?

Letting go of anger, prejudice, hate, pain…they FREE you..they allow you to LIVE, not merely EXIST on this planet.

Yes, the past is a horrible thing…mine included…yet here I am..

Do you think I became this strong overnight? NOPE…it took YEARS to be the person I am today.

You want to know how I did it?

One day I realised that if I didn’t let it all go then I would forever be in the vicious cycle of hate, anger, and pain.

If something ‘offended’ me, then I walked away and looked at something ELSE. I did not sit there screaming at it. I did not sit there fighting with someone because they did not see MY way.

We are so convinced that OUR way is the RIGHT way that we REFUSE to see it any OTHER way.

Let me tell you…for every single person out there, there is ‘a way’..completely different from ours.

When we acknowledge that THEIR way is right for them, and OUR way is right for us, then we can say “Oh, well, I see what you mean…” and LEAVE IT AT THAT.

Every day…EVERY SINGLE DAY, mind you…I go out into this world..I see all types of people, all types of colour, all types of faith…you want to know something?…I have YET to hate someone because of their differences…and they may take umbrage at something about me, but I smile, or give them a hug, or speak peace to them, and then we walk away with a knowing that if we did not change each other, then at least we did not hurt each other.

I have NEVER been “not wanted” in a church, mosque, or temple…because even though I am not of THEIR faith, I RESPECTED their faith and their right to be it.

I have never been ‘excluded’ from one society or another, because I TOLERATED their right to be who they are. I do not see “straight, gay, socialist, democrat, republican” or any other LABEL that society has thrown on them…I SEE A SOUL…equal to my own and with just as much right to be here as I do.

Saint Francis coined the phrase “You attract more flies with honey than vinegar” … more HONEY, LESS VINEGAR.

Some say “oil and water don’t mix”…too true…so..maybe you just need to keep them in separate containers then, yeah?

Don’t let YOUR life become the ONLY life you want to love.

People are, at their core, wanting love and friendship…it is only by fighting about STUPID things…LABELS… that we get all worked up about.

If someone’s faith is different, SO WHAT…it is THEIR faith, NOT YOURS.

WHO CARES if someone sleeps with someone else?

WHO CARES if someone pees standing up or sitting down?

WHO CARES if someone is voting this person or that person?

Does it change the person into some sort of demon? Do they sprout horns and a pitchfork and say “BWAHAHA…I AM EVIL”..!?!? makes YOU look like a FOOL because you are sitting there screaming “YOU ARE WRONG” at them…which will make THEM scream back at you that YOUR ideas are wrong.

See where I am going with this?

If we simply accept that everyone is different, everyone has an opinion, and we respect the SOUL inside of them (which, in effect is JUST THE WAY GOD MADE THEM) then we can see THROUGH the anger, hate, and prejudice, and start seeing that they simply want THEIR lives to matter as well..

What happened, or they perceive is happening, to them is merely FLEETING.

Once we shed this skin, once we are all 6 ft down and pushing up daisies, it will not matter ONE JOT what their politics were…or how they peed…or whom they slept with..or who they voted for.

“At the end of the game, the king and the pawn go back in the same box.” -Italian Proverb

Death is the great equaliser..friends…when you walk into a graveyard, can you tell if this one was black, or that one was a republican..or that one was gay?

We are only here for a short time on this rock…do you really want to waste it being angry all the time?

AFTER we die, will it matter that we won that argument about this year’s election?

Or will it matter MORE that someone will weep at our demise, and say “They were a GOOD person…they helped SO MANY”…?

When I stand before my Master (and this is MY faith, MY belief…it does not have to be yours, because you may not believe as I do) I would like to think that I can say “I have done all you asked, Master…”…and He will look on me and say “Well done, faithful servant, receive your reward”…

Let me tell you friends, death is sudden…it happens at ANY time..and the LAST thing I would want to be on my thoughts as I am standing there is that I was fighting with someone about something SO SILLY that I forgot His commands.

Think about it…if today, heck, of THIS HOUR were your last would you really CARE who won that election..or who dresses what way…..or what someone else was doing in THEIR lives that you found so offensive…?

I have had the doctors give me “The Long Face” …it woke me up, people. I realise that each and every day I live is a GIFT. And I, for one, do not intend to waste that gift on hating.

I could close my eyes tonight, and that could be the LAST time they would have been open.

Think on that for a second…THE LAST TIME.

Will people say “He was a prat…he was a republican, or a democrat, or supported this thing I found so offensive”…? I can almost say with a certainty that people will weep for me…will say “He was a good man” or that I “Helped so many”…people will remember me for helping them, not hating them.

Take stock of your life for a second…can everyone you know, from all walks of life, say the same?

Will people from almost every faith say a prayer in your name in their own way?

Will people say “They were a good person” and MEAN IT…?

Less anger, more love.

Less hate, more tolerance.

Less division, more inclusion.

Less YOU, and more US.

Peace be with you all this day.

“Brothers and sisters: We hold this treasure in earthen vessels, that the surpassing power may be of God and not from us.

We are afflicted in every way, but not constrained; perplexed, but not driven to despair;
persecuted, but not abandoned; struck down, but not destroyed; always carrying about in the body the dying of Jesus, so that the life of Jesus may also be manifested in our body.

For we who live are constantly being given up to death for the sake of Jesus, so that the life of Jesus may be manifested in our mortal flesh.

So death is at work in us, but life in you.

Since, then, we have the same spirit of faith, according to what is written, “I believed, therefore I spoke,” we too believe and therefore speak, knowing that the one who raised the Lord Jesus will raise us also with Jesus and place us with you in his presence.

Everything indeed is for you, so that the grace bestowed in abundance on more and more people may cause the thanksgiving to overflow for the glory of God.” – 2 Corinthians 4:7-15.

“On that day, Jesus went out of the house and sat down by the sea.

Such large crowds gathered around him that he got into a boat and sat down, and the whole crowd stood along the shore.

And he spoke to them at length in parables, saying: “A sower went out to sow.

And as he sowed, some seed fell on the path, and birds came and ate it up.

Some fell on rocky ground, where it had little soil.

It sprang up at once because the soil was not deep, and when the sun rose it was scorched, and it withered for lack of roots.

Some seed fell among thorns, and the thorns grew up and choked it.

But some seed fell on rich soil, and produced fruit, a hundred or sixty or thirtyfold.

Whoever has ears ought to hear.” – Matthew 13:1-9.

“Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God.

Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God.

Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love.

This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him.

This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins.

Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.

No one has ever seen God; but if we love one another, God lives in us and his love is made complete in us.

This is how we know that we live in him and he in us: He has given us of his Spirit.

And we have seen and testify that the Father has sent his Son to be the Savior of the world.

If anyone acknowledges that Jesus is the Son of God, God lives in them and they in God.

And so we know and rely on the love God has for us.

God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in them.

This is how love is made complete among us so that we will have confidence on the day of judgement: In this world we are like Jesus.

There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment.

The one who fears is not made perfect in love.

We love because he first loved us.

Whoever claims to love God yet hates a brother or sister is a liar.

For whoever does not love their brother and sister, whom they have seen, cannot love God, whom they have not seen.

And he has given us this command: Anyone who loves God must also love their brother and sister.” – 1 John 4:7-21

“One who walks blamelessly and does justice; who thinks the truth in his heart and slanders not with his tongue.

Who harms not his fellow man, nor takes up a reproach against his neighbour; by whom the reprobate is despised, while he honours those who fear the LORD.

Who lends not his money at usury and accepts no bribe against the innocent.

One who does these things shall never be disturbed.” – Psalms 15(14):2-3.4.5.

“Jesus was going through a field of grain on the sabbath.

His disciples were hungry and began to pick the heads of grain and eat them.

When the Pharisees saw this, they said to him, “See, your disciples are doing what is unlawful to do on the sabbath.”

He said to them, “Have you not read what David did when he and his companions were hungry, how he went into the house of God and ate the bread of offering, which neither he nor his companions but only the priests could lawfully eat?

Or have you not read in the law that on the sabbath the priests serving in the temple violate the sabbath and are innocent?

I say to you, something greater than the temple is here.

If you knew what this meant, ‘I desire mercy, not sacrifice,’ you would not have condemned these innocent men.

For the Son of Man is Lord of the sabbath.”” – Matthew 12:1-8.

Commentary on the reading of the day provided by:
Dorotheus of Gaza (c.500-?), monk in Palestine
Instructions, I, 8 (SC 92, p. 159)

“Come to me”

Let anyone who would find their soul’s true rest learn humility!

Let them understand that all joy, all glory, all rest are to be found in it just as the opposite is to be found in pride.

For how, indeed, is it that we have come to all these tribulations?

Why have we fallen into all this misery?

Isn’t it because of our pride, our foolishness?

Isn’t it because we followed our own evil counsel and were attached to the bitterness of our own wills?

And why so?

Wasn’t man created in perfect equanimity, in complete happiness, rest and glory?

Wasn’t he in Paradise?

He was commanded: Don’t do this, yet he did it.

Do you not note his pride, his arrogance, his insubordination?

“Man is a foolish creature,” said God, when he saw this insolence; “he has no idea how to be happy.

Unless he experiences evil days he will be lost forthwith.

Unless he learns what affliction is, he will never know the meaning of rest.”

And so God gave him what he deserved by driving him out of Paradise…

And yet, as I often say to you, God’s goodness has not failed his creature but keeps turning towards it, calling it back: “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.”

That is to say: See, how weary you are, how unhappy!

You have learned by experience the evil of your disobedience.

Come along then, be converted; come along, recognise your powerlessness and shame so that you can return to the rest and glory that is yours.

Come on, you who were dead from pride: live by humility.

“Learn from me, for I am gentle and humble of heart, and you shall find rest for your souls.”
