As the Cleric for a rather largish ‘parish’ here in the cyberworld, and those who are not as well, I do A LOT of praying. One of the biggest things I see around me is a certain ‘falling away from’ praying.

Some see prayer as a bore…or as outdated…or embarrassing….or even a nuisance…but the truth of the matter is, they just do not want to do it because they feel that somehow ‘God is not listening’.

I am here to tell you that the truth is FAR SCARIER than that….GOD IS ALWAYS LISTENING. He knows WHY you will not pray..He knows your heart, mind, and inner soul. You cannot expect a prayer to be answered if you only pray in times of distress, or suffering! Not praying for the small victories in your life, or when you START to feel low is like not buying an umbrella when you live in the rainforest! (where it rains almost 8 months out of the year..hence RAINforest)

Saint Padre Pio (a personal hero of mine) once said “”Prayer is the best weapon we have; it is the key to God’s heart. You must speak to Jesus not only with your lips, but with your heart. In fact on certain occasions you should only speak to Him with your heart.”

And he also once was quoted as saying “Prayer is the oxygen of the soul.”

You have a direct phone line to God…every time you ring His number with a prayer, HE ANSWERS….possibly not in a way YOU would want, but DEFINITELY in a way you NEED.

What kind of God gives everyone what they want? If this were the case, we would have ALL won the lottery! πŸ˜€

Instead, He subtly sends the help requested through various means….that rent that is due, maybe He sends understanding into the landlords heart to give you a little more time…..or that death you are grieving over…maybe He sends someone you trust to comfort you.

Now, I have been praying for a good number of people lately…illness, death, financial woe, sorry..etc…and I can tell you from personal experience that if you simply TALK to God, as if talking to a beloved Father or Uncle, you WILL receive the answers you seek. NO ONE ,outside of a few belief systems, says prayer has to be a “formal” worded essay! Saint Teresa of Avila once said “Prayer is you talking to God…no technicalities, no formalities..just you, talking to God”

So, if you do not pray and thank Him when things are going GOOD in your life, how can you expect Him to listen when BAD things happen??

Try it some time…just sit there, open up your heart, pour out your thanks…or pain…or sorrow…or joy…and actually TALK to Him.

I know when I DO, I FEEL His presence…almost palpable…like a gentle hand on my shoulder as if to say “I am here, my servant…what would you ask of me?”….give it a try…pray and see if what I say is not true…what have you got to lose???

Peace be with you all…<3

As a person who thrives on acceptance and opinion… I am learning that prayer is better than keeping things bottled up to the point of being overwhelmed…and easier on my friends, too πŸ™‚ I know now that He does hear me and never tires of it ❀
